Letter from the Secretary/dates for the diary!

Dear All,

It is time, yet again, for another Tennis season to start!! We just hope the terrible weather is behind us and we can look forward to a good Summer?

With that in mind there are a few dates to put in your diaries as follows;

Sunday 15th March- there will be a cleaning & tidying up day at the Playing Fields when all the different Clubs help tidy up our Sporting areas. The tennis courts need moss killing, net bands need cleaning, weeding both inside & outside the courts. I do hope as many Members as possible could come to help please? This would make the job so much easier!!!

Sunday 22nd March; pre season tennis training will start 10am onwards.

Thursday 26th March; Rufforth tennis AGM will take place in the Chapel schoolroom at 7.30pm

I do hope many of you can support the Club in any way you are able to please?

Many thanks.

Regards,

Christine

Update on LTA Pay & Play Scheme

We were recently approached by the LTA offering the chance to install a new gate access system which would enable non-members to book and pay for courts online and provide them with a one off access code to use the courts. The committee have investigated the potential benefits of doing this and concluded that at this time we will not pursue the system further but will review on an annual basis. We considered the cost of installation and maintenance of the gates, administration of the system/data fees, and potential financial impact on our existing membership against the amount of ‘casual’ play that would be required to make this system beneficial to our small club. We do not currently have the foot flow or level of ‘casual’ play enquiries to consider the Pay & Play Scheme at the this time.

Mixed Division 5 Champions!

Congratulations to the Mixed second team on promotion from Division 5.  In 2018 the team finished third losing out on promotion by a single point, whilst having a vastly superior games record than the team finishing second.  A successful recruitment drive has meant a strengthening of the team early in 2019 and the team has been promoted and also won the division.

A defeat in both May and then June meant promotion was never certain, but the team then pulled together six straight wins.  Promotion was won in our last match and top place assured in the final match of the league’s season.

Congratulations especially to the nucleus of the team, but also to all those who played the occasional match.  A truly team effort by all.
